Fox Flight Terror Frenzy

Aviation Security Nonsense (UPDATE) : NO QUARTER

"Some of the news media had its shorts in a knot today as they breathlessly reported that a man was arrested in Egypt, after flying from NYC, with guns, knives and a sword in his checked luggage. I repeat, CHECKED luggage. FOX in particular had a case of the vapors over this. How in the world could someone carry something like that in their checked luggage.

Well, for starters, they pose no threat when they are in a checked bag. Unless the passenger in question could climb into the hold during the flight and rummage thru the luggage containers he would not have access to the weapons. So what’s the problem? If he did not declare the guns in advance he was guilty of transporting a firearm illegally. But that act posed no threat whatsoever to the flight. But why pass up a chance to scare the public by hyping a non-event? Fox was beating this drum early on..."
