CITIZEN-TIMES.com: Man apologizes to Buncombe Dems for threats: "Man apologizes to Buncombe Dems for threats
ASHEVILLE — Authorities will meet Monday to decide whether to file charges over calls made to Buncombe County Democrats, but police say it appears caller Sam Slappey did not intend any violence.
Party officials said Friday they would not press charges after Slappey called them Thursday to apologize.
They filed a criminal complaint with Asheville police after the threats, one in a telephone call to a worker and two left in answering machine messages.
'So we just say, "Why give this guy a record on a blotter?"' chairman Max Haner said.
In one profanity-laced voice message, the caller said he hoped party workers would have their children die in their arms.
In another, he threatened, 'I’m going to come see you and when I walk through that door, you won’t have to ask who I am.'"
More nicety from the family values crowd.
