Jong For Blood
Fear of Losing « Not Your Sweetie: "...Of course, the craziest of all, Erica bought hook line and sinker the Donna Brazile/Obama campaign fear mongering:
“If Obama loses it will spark the second American Civil War. Blood will run in the streets, believe me. And it’s not a coincidence that President Bush recalled soldiers from Iraq for Dick Cheney to lead against American citizens in the streets.”
What can I say, Erica? Had you paid closer attention, beyond your little group of friends you could have been a PUMA."
Media Misses Pumas
Yet, surprise surprise, the mainstream media is not talking about these voters, not talking about the real rift that is occurring within the ranks of the Democratic Party. Needless to say, if a similar rift were occurring in the Republican Party, it would be treated as the major story that it is. (Indeed, as such stories about the political fault lines in the Republican Party have been treated in the recent past.)
Who are these pro-McCain Democratic voters? They overwhelmingly tend to be former Hillary supporters. Perhaps the most well-known of these voters are the "PUMAs" - which stands for Party Unity My Ass. These are Hillary supporters who are adamantly opposed to Obama. Let's not forget that during the Democratic primaries - real elections, not polls - Hillary crushed Obama among white working-class and middle-class voters in such key states as Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. If a meaningful number of these voters end up voting for McCain, as I predict they will, then Obama's smooth road to the White House is going to run smack into a brick wall..."
Baking The BloggerBoyz
"...As I said before, it is a politics of catering to the winners rather than defending the losers. What offends the Drums and Marshalls and other "pro-war before we were anti-war" suck-ups on the Left most about Somerby is that he keeps defending a "loser." Al may have won back some of these guys with the environmentalism and Nobel prize, but fundamentally they all still despise Gore as a loser, and they thought of him this way before the debacle of 2000.
They want their own Reagan, someone who will make them stop feeling like losers, even if it means losing touch with the principles they claim to hold."

An Unfortunate Truth
"...Our economy is in the tank for many complicated reasons, especially because people don’t have enough money. So let them keep it. Let businesses keep it so they can create jobs and stay here and weather this storm. And yet, the Democratic ideology remains the same. Our approach to problems—big government solutions paid for by taxing the rich and big and smaller companies—is just as tired and out of date as trickle down economics. How about a novel approach that simply finds a sane way to stop the bleeding?
That’s not exactly the philosophy of a Democrat. Not only has this party belittled working people in this campaign from Joe the Plumber to the bitter comments, it has also been part of tearing down two female candidates. At first, certain Democrats and the press called Senator Clinton “dishonest.” They went after her cleavage. They said her experience as First Lady consisted of having tea parties. There was no outrage over “Bros before Hoes” or “Iron My Shirt.” Did Senator Clinton make mistakes? Of course. She’s human.
But here we are about a week out and it’s déjà vu all over again. Really, front-page news is how the Republican National Committee paid for Governor Sarah Palin’s wardrobe? Where’s the op-ed about how Obama tucks in his shirt when he plays basketball or how Senator Biden buttons the top button on his golf shirt?..."

Raging Sexism v. America
Tuesday: “An injustice anywhere is an injustice everywhere” « The Confluence
"Martin Luther King Jr. said that. Liberal Democratic women do not seem to understand this statement. Basically it means that discrimination, disrespect, misogyny directed towards Sarah Palin is really discrimination, disrespect, misogyny on all women. It’s just delivered by proxy.
It shouldn’t matter what political party the woman belongs to. You have every right to disagree wih her politics. But it is morally wrong to cheer on the abuse that has been hurled at her, and let us be clear about this, the abuse has been specifically gender related.
She has been assumed to be dumb because she is pretty. The media has screamed and thrown a fit to get access to her for interviews and then proceeded to edit, chop and take her words out of context to reinforce their predetermined narrative. I’ve watched exactly one interview and have focussed afterwards on Sarah’s live and debate performances. Peeps, Sarah is not dumb. She’s got incredible political intuition and she’s a quick study. After 4 years as VP, she would be a formidable opponent to Hillary Clinton. If liberal women were outraged by the media’s treatment of Hillary, they are being hypocritical in turning against Sarah. The injustice is just as bad or even worse...."
Just as I loathed the treatment Sen.Clinton received from nearly everyone, I loathe the treatment Gov. Palin has received. Frankly, I think some of the activity directed at her should fall under hate speech guidelines and at the very least should receive widespread condemnation. But that will not happen because somehow my Democratic Party, the Party of good guys, fair play, and equality has become the thing it purported to hate-- a Party of hate where any slander is okay as long as it is directed at the opposition. Just as I refused to support the GOP for decades because of its policies and behavior, I can refuse to support this new Democratic Party. My support will go to those politicians who act responsibly and have policies I can at least tolerate. My support will be based on their actions, not their promises.
And I vote will my ballot and with my bucks.

Feminism Today
"This past Tuesday, Sarah Palin made the most explicitly feminist political speech by ANYONE running for national office in the last 20 years. She said,
"Women of my generation were allowed finally to make more of our own choices with education, with career, and I have never forgotten that we owe that opportunity to women, to feminists who came before us," Palin said. "The belief in equal opportunity is not just the cause of feminists, it's the creed of our country — equal opportunity."
Many people are trying to marginalize this lady, and discredit her accomplishments. She has worked harder than Obama & Biden combined. She has more executive experience, marked record of achievement and increased responsibility.

"...Added note: Most people are presuming that Ashley Todd has mental health issues. That presumption may be true, although only a professional psychiatrist or psychologist can make the diagnosis. But should we not make the same presumption of mental illness in the case of Dana Milbank, who invented the story that McCain supporters shouted "Kill him" when Sarah Palin mentioned the name of Barack Obama? The Secret Service determined the story to be false, yet the progs continue to treat it as gospel. Yet Milbank continues to earn money, while Ashley has earned only ignominy. Double standard!"

Another Ugly Incident
Party's Past
Tightening Polls
The poll, which found Obama at 44 percent and McCain at 43 percent, supports what some Republicans and Democrats privately have said in recent days: that the race narrowed after the third debate as GOP-leaning voters drifted home to their party and McCain's 'Joe the plumber' analogy struck a chord..."
Adrift In A Sea Of Indifference
We are resisting the chopping away at the ice that the priveleged part of the tribe is doing to disconnect us from them. That is what is fueling the resistence. And what is happening on Wall Street right now is a bellwhether for what is to come if Obama wins by discounting and suppressing the vote. It isn’t right to take the taxes of the hardest working Americans and give it to the well connected on Wall Street without those taxpayers having a say in how the money is used. TThat is the way the government will operate in the future if the DNC, Obama, Pelosi et al get their way. For once and all, they won’t have to reach out the Bubbas, as they call us. They will treat us like non-voting partners in whatever business plan they intend to carry out..."
At some point the middle will realize that neither party represents us, though both want our votes. The GOP uses faith and patriotism as a wedge to pick the pockets of the middle class and the poor and redistribute the wealth to their elites. The Dems use ethnicity and victimization to pick the pockets of the poor, the middle, and the wealthy and then figure ways to redistribute the money to their elite. The bottom line is the same: the rich get richer and the rest get screwed. Neither Obama nor McCain will change this system since they represent both self and other interests that benefit from the system. The only way to "get 'er done" is a complete upheaval in the legislative branch with extremists from both sides being replaced by people who actually work for the people, as opposed to those who talk but do not do.

Is America fighting a holy war? [misquoted Palin]
On The Village People
Anglachel's post (excerpt below) quotes the Daily Howler quite extensively (a good thing) and adds a further fork or two in the steaming corpse of a once semi-respectable blogger. As always, there is certainly more than one good candidate for thievery in her posts but I picked the following, which is slightly off topic, but this is one of those cases in which the horse cannot be whipped too much:
...To me, as I have been writing for months, the key lies with the psychosis of the Stevensonian crowd, who hate all things white and southern and who have seized the presence of racism (real and imagined) as the source of evil in the body politic. No lie is too much, no threat of violence too far, no manipulation of the process too crude in the Battle Against the Bubbas.
This is why we have the weird opposition to McCain and Palin, almost identical to the trashing of Hillary, focusing on racism and social status to the exclusion of substance. It can work if you have already decided that the poor and working class as such are not worthy of political representation. Exactly in the way that the Republicans have tried to make urban black populations stand in for everyone below upper middle class, trying to sully programs for lower classes by forcing programs benefitting those classes into grotesque blackface, now the Democrats are coming at this group from the other side, whitewashing their own class bigotry with the specter of the KKK...

The Good Old Days
Not too long ago (but what seems an eternity) what filled me with pride as a Democrat was that we were on the “good guys” side. We defended civil rights, women’s rights, gay rights, voter rights, housing rights, etc. As a liberal, I want everybody to have a good paying job , a decent place to live, a good public school to send your kids, have a good doctor, participate in the American dream of buying your own home and for everyone to live a prosperous happy life living under a government that is for the people, by the people. While knowing that certain candidates did not have a full grasp to the needs of middle to lower income Americans, nor have the fighting spirit to defend them, I stood by my party for decades as they rolled out candidate after candidate who I voted for because I was a Democrat. I stood by them because they earned the majority of our party’s votes and because they had Democratic principles (despite that some of them were a bit “right-of-center” to my more liberal views.) I don’t feel that sense of pride anymore, I don’t feel that the Democrats are the “good guys” because the current Democratic Party morphed into the “enemy” and it’s eating its own just to win. It’s become the blue-tinged version of the Neo-Con Republican Party with an “O” instead of a “W.” ..."

Vote Winning Threats?
"That’s the big “hint” to what James Carville says will happen if Obama doesn’t “win” the election. Nothing like a little threat of violence to try to skew , are I say, dictate, things to go a certain way.
This was a topic of conversation last night on the excellent “Patsy and Sugar” show on No Quarter Radio (Thursday nights at 9:00 pm). We have heard this before - that’s what was going to happen at the DNC Convention, too, had they not broken all of their roll-call rules.
Please, will you remind me again how this is Democratic?? Because, frankly, I resent being threatened with violence if I do not vote for a particular candidate, ANY candidate. And what does it say about Obama and his minions that this is an ACCEPTABLE tactic?? Like so many other of Obama’s tactics, this is despicable..."
Guys, com'on. Do you really think that tactic will work? Do you think you can scare a bunch of bitter, Bible clinging low-information low-class trash (like me) into voting for the One? Or, do you think that perhaps the same people who fight this country's wars, repair its machinery, and build its citadels might somehow drum up the nerve to face thugs with pop guns and bottles of gasoline? We endured a Civil War that killed hundreds of thousands and devastated an entire region of the country. Sorry, but riots are not much of a worry.

Comment Of The Day
John McCain spent that amount of time, from 1967 to 1973, in a North Vietnamese prisoner-of-war camp.
When offered early release, he refused it. He considered this offer to be a public relations stunt by his captors, and insisted that those held longer than he should be released first Did you get that part? He was offered his freedom, and he turned it down. A regimen of beatings and torture began.
Do you possess such strength of character? Locked in a filthy cell in a foreign country, would you turn down your own freedom in favor of your fellow man? I submit that’s a quality of character that is rarely found, and for me, this singular act defines John McCain.
Unlike several presidential candidates in recent years whose military service is questionable or non-existent, you will not find anyone to denigrate the integrity and moral courage of this man..."

About Those Terrorist Facts
"... TPM also scores a McCain robocall which ties Obama to terrorist Bill Ayers.
And now we have a third one that says Obama "worked closely" with a "domestic terrorist" who bombed the U.S. Capitol and the Pentagon and killed Americans. Needless to say, a major campaign is underway. He did indeed work closely with Ayers. The fact has been established beyond challenge.
Oddly, Sargent does not attempt to present a counter-argument; he is content to pretend that the charge is absurd on its face. In this, he reminds me of the New Republic's Jonathan Chait, who pretended that his publication had investigated the Ayers/Obama link extensively, even though the New Republic has never published a story mentioning Ayers, Obama and the Annenberg Challenge. "...Senator Obama evidently has forgotten about two things for which we can thank Joe Biden. The first is the current bankruptcy bill which makes it difficult for folks who get into financial trouble for things like unemployment and overwhelming health catastrophy costs to ever recover financially and lead normal lives again. The second is that he’s never met a credit card company supported bill he doesn’t like.
Here’s what one liberal blogger said about that bill while Biden was still running for President. Notice that it also references another ‘progressive’ blog.
The bankruptcy bill is such a cruel piece of legislation, especially to single mothers and people without health insurance, that K** crossed Biden right off his list of potential candidates. I’m unaware of any major or medium size blogger that supports Biden’s campaign…and it really all comes back to the bankruptcy bill..."

83 year old Willa Mae Trull was last seen Tuesday around 3:00 p.m. outside her home in the Saunook community..."
Willa Mae was a relation and one of the leaders in the fight to get the Road To Nowhere Built. She, and other members of her organization, published a newsletter and led the fight to get the road built, and from her I learned just how low on the totem pole "hillbillies" actually are. Someone in her group had retrieved several documents from Washington under the Freedom of Information Act that stated, in essence, that the residents of Appalachia were "marginal people" and no one in the "real United States" cared what happened to them so the Federals could come in and play the patriot card and confiscate their land for a pittance of what it was actually worth. And they did, with the promise they would build a road which would bring an economic boom to the area. They built enough of the road to finish Fontana Dam and the land acquisition, then quit.
Of course, we hillbillies have no reason to question people from Washington (or Raleigh) when they arrive and say "We're here to help."

Left Imitates Right
In part, we’re in the messes we’re in today because of the intellectual bankruptcy of mainstream journalistic elites (examples below). Rant Of The Day
"... After all, the worst case scenario for a political bully like Obama is for citizens to start comparing notes.
And I have been not only surprised, but heartened, to find out that most people aren’t nearly as stupid as the Obama camp and Mr. Astro Turf David Axelrod want you to think.
For instance it has escaped no one that there is a racist running for the white house …..and it isn’t John McCain.
People are tired, and I mean really, really tired of feeling as if they have to be ashamed of being conservative, financially solvent, and white. You are now guilty by the color of your skin. It has not escaped anyone I have talked to that they are about to be pilloried for something that their ancestors may or may not have done….simply because of the color of their skin. If this is post racial I would really like to see Obama explain how.
And all this brought to us all by the same phony that says his recent and very personal associations with domestic terrorists, Muslim extremists, and outright racists do not count. Yup…we aren’t allowed to look closely at Barack’s friends and allies in the present tense because that would make us racists…."

Liberals Escaping!
'From the MANITOBA HERALD, Canada
A flood of American liberals sneaking across the border into Canada has intensified in the past week, sparking calls for increased patrols to stop the illegal immigration.
The possibility of a McCain/Palin election is prompting the exodus among left-leaning citizens who fear they'll soon be required to hunt, pray, and agree with Bill O'Reilly.
Canadian border farmers say it's not uncommon to see dozens of sociology professors, animal rights activists, and Unitarians crossing their fields at night.
I went out to milk the cows the other day, and there was a Hollywood producer huddled in the barn," said Manitoba farmer Red Greenfield, whose acreage borders North Dakota.
The producer was cold, exhausted, and hungry. "He asked me if I could spare a latte and some free-range chicken.
When I said I didn't have any, he left. Didn't even get a chance to show him my screenplay, eh?"
In an effort to stop the illegal aliens, Greenfield erected higher fences, but the liberals scaled them. So he tried installing speakers that blare Rush Limbaugh across the fields. "Not real effective," he said. "The liberals still got through, and Rush annoyed the cows so much they wouldn't give milk."
Officials are particularly concerned about smugglers who meet liberals near the Canadian border, pack them into Volvo station wagons, drive them across the border, and leave them to fend for themselves. "A lot of these people are not prepared for rugged conditions," an Ontario border patrolman said. "I found one carload without a drop of drinking water. "They did have a nice little Napa Valley cabernet, though."
When liberals are caught, they're sent back across the border, often wailing loudly that they fear retribution from conservatives. Rumors have been circulating about the McCain administration establishing re-education camps in which liberals will be forced to shoot wolves from airplanes, deny evolution, and act out drills preparing them for the Rapture.
In recent days, liberals have turned to sometimes-ingenious ways of crossing the border. Some have taken to posing as senior citizens on bus trips to buy cheap Canadian prescription drugs. After catching a half-dozen young vegans disguised in powdered wigs, Canadian immigration authorities began stopping buses and quizzing the supposed senior-citizen passengers on Perry Como and Rosemary Clooney hits to prove they were alive in the '50s.
"If they can't identify the accordion player on The Lawrence Welk Show, we get suspicious about their age," an official said.
Canadian citizens have complained that the illegal immigrants are creating an organic-broccoli shortage and renting all the good Susan Sarandon movies.
"I feel sorry for American liberals, but the Canadian economy just can't support them," an Ottawa resident said. "How many art-history and English majors does one country need?" '

Bottom-Line Kucinich
Under the failed $700 billion bailout plan, Wall Street's profits are Wall Street's profits and Wall Street's losses are the taxpayers' losses. Profits are capitalized. Losses are socialized.
We are at a teachable moment on matters of money and finance. In the coming days and weeks, I will share with you thoughts about what can be done to take us not just in a new direction, but in a new direction which is just."

About That AIG Bailout
"The point of this exercise is:
I'm against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.
Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a 'We Deserve It Dividend'.
To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 Legal U.S. Citizens 18+.
Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up.
So divide 200 million adult1s 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00.
My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a 'We Deserve It Dividend'.
Of course, it would NOT be tax free. So let's assume a tax rate of 30%.
Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,50000 in taxes. That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.
But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket. A husband and wife has $595,000.00.
What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?
Pay off your mortgage, housing crisis solved. Repay college loans, what a great boost to new grads
Put away money for college, it'll be there Save in a bank, create money to loan to entrepreneurs.
Buy a new car, create jobs Invest in the market , capital drives growth Pay for your parent's medical insurance, health care improves Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean, or else.
Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.
If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it..instead of trickling out a puny $1000.00 (vote buy) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President.
If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+!
As for AIG liquidate it. Sell off its parts. Let American General go back to being American General. Sell off the real estate. Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.
Here's my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn't.
Sure it's a crazy idea that can never work. Maybe???
But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!
How do you spell Economic Boom?
I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion 'We Deserve It Dividend' more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC.
And remember, The Birk plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5 Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam..."
