The Pregnant Old

Elisabeth Hasselbeck: Obamacare Causing ‘Many’ Pregnant Elderly Women To Lose Doctors | The New Civil Rights Movement:
...Today, Hasselbeck furthered her ignorant exploration of issues confronting average Americans, by claiming that “many” elderly pregnant women are losing their doctors, thanks to, you guessed it, Obamacare...
The issue was really about changes in a Medicare supplement policy-- I think. Suffice it to say, elderly women rarely need to be covered for pregnancy, though that does sound a growth area for scammers.

Murdoch Hacking Returns

Major Phone Hacking Bombshell Drops | Crooks and Liars:
Prosecutors told a London court today that Murdoch’s top deputies Rebekah Brooks and Andy Coulson carried on a six-year affair while running the News of the World, and that they colluded together to hack celebrities’ phones.

Rebekah Brooks and Andy Coulson, the two biggest names in the ongoing trial over phone hacking, had an affair for at least six years, the jury in the trial was told on Thursday...

Fox Does Good

Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren Out-Journalisms CBS News on Florida Woman’s Junk Insurance | Mediaite:

...Earlier today, Newsbusters outclassed most of the mainstream media by being honest about Obamacare, and now, The Washington Post‘s Erik Wemple points out that Fox News has actually outclassed CBS News by partially correcting Jan Crawford‘s misleading report about a Florida woman who is unhappy about the new plan she’s being offered under Obamacare, at ten times the price of her old plan. Slow clap for conservative media today...

The Media Blame

How the Broken Media Helped Break the Government - David Rohde - The Atlantic:
...I'm not suggesting a false equivalence between Fox and MSNBC, or the far right and left — which James Fallows has rightly criticized in The Atlantic. Hard-line Republicans egged on by Fox are responsible for the government shutdown. They have taken the government hostage in their obsession to end Obamacare. Yet if one watches only Fox, radical steps are needed to prevent the cataclysm that conservatives believe Obamacare represents.

There are some reasons for hope. The emergence of non-profit news outlets and the web’s breadth of information and instant accountability are promising. But simplistic, reassuring narratives are more profitable than dispassionate descriptions of complex public policy problems. For a collapsing, digital-age news industry desperate for income, partisanship is an economic lifeline...

Fox vs. Obama, Benghazi Chapter

Fox News chief ordered Geraldo Rivera’s mic cut for defending Obama on Benghazi: report | The Raw Story:
A new report says that Fox News President Roger Ailes ordered the Fox News control room to cut host Geraldo Rivera’s mic just two days before November’s election because he was defending President Barack Obama against the network’s “misinformation” about terrorist attacks in Benghazi.

The New York Times reported on Monday that Bloomberg View columnist Jonathan Alter’s new book, “The Center Holds: Obama and His Enemies,” is expected to tell a story about how Fox News tried to use the Benghazi attacks to prevent Obama’s re-election...

Daily Anti-CDS

Hillary Clinton Haters Hammered for Mocking Her Illness - The Daily Beast
Hey, Fox News, guess it’s not the “Benghazi flu” after all. Turns out that Hillary—you know, the woman many of you love to hate—has a blood clot near her brain.

What we heard from some on the right after Hillary Clinton said she suffered a concussion last month—following a bout with the stomach flu—was that she could be faking it, since it happened just days before she was scheduled to testify about the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi. (That’s you, John Bolton, the former State Department official who accused her of contracting a “diplomatic illness.”)...

Fox Falls

Bad news at Fox News? Hannity’s ratings plummet | Strange Bedfellows — Politics News - seattlepi.com
...In the days after, according to Nielsen ratings, Hannity’s nightly audience plummeted to 1.95 million. He lost nearly 50 percent of his viewers, more than 50 percent in the coveted 25-54 age group.

“The O’Reilly Factor” also saw a drop, but not as severe. BillO dropped from 4.135 million nightly viewers to 3.049 million after the election. He’s restarted an old war — the “war on Christmas” — presumably in the hopes of getting them back...

Fox Won't Disclose News Corp. Testing Contracts At Heart Of The Chicago Teachers' Strike | Blog | Media Matters for America

In 89 segments between September 10 and 16, Fox News reported on the Chicago Teachers Union's strike without disclosing its financial ties to the educational technology company administering the standardized tests with which the union takes issue...

Puff Adder Journalism

R.E.M.HQ: NEWS

R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion" was used in the Fox News coverage of the Democratic National Convention last night. R.E.M. today, through its music publisher, Warner-Tamerlane Music, demanded that Fox News cease and desist from continuing its unlicensed and unauthorized use of the song. Michael Stipe said, "We have little or no respect for their puff adder brand of reportage. Our music does not belong there."

Fox Outs Seal

US Politics | AMERICAblog News: Fox News outs Navy SEAL who led bin Laden raid, endangering him and his family

So Fox News has decided to name the anonymous Navy SEAL who authored an upcoming book about the rain on OBL.  Up until now the names have been kept secret out of fear for the lives of those SEALs.  They and their families would make perfect Al Qaeda targets now and in the future.  And now they are, thanks to Fox.

This of course is not long after Fox News - the same journalist who outed the SEAL, in fact - blasted President Obama for discussing the Navy SEAL raid that killed Osama bin Laden - Fox claimed at the time that leaking details of the raid like, oh I don't know, maybe the names of the guys who did the raid, might endanger their lives (Obama did not release their names)...

No Global Warming On Fox

Fox Tries To Debunk Global Warming, Fails Miserably | Media Matters for America:

"In an article titled, 'Five Reasons the Planet May Not Be Its Hottest Ever,' FoxNews.com sought to debunk the fact that Earth has warmed over the past 30 years, as well as the notion that human activity has contributed to the warming. But Fox largely ignored climate science and botched basic facts in the article, portions of which 'are utter nonsense' and 'do not make sense' according to climatologists consulted by Media Matters, including one of the skeptics cited by Fox..."

Fox News Wants Dead Americans

Pepper Monkey Press: Fox News' John Gibson Warns Al Qaeda To Attack Before Hillary Is Elected: "...FOX's John Gibson, for his part, is clearly and dutifully fulfilling his mandate as a well compensated neocon shill, sending a none-to-cryptic message to Al Qaeda to attack before the US Presidential election if it, Al Qaeda, wants the US to continue on its present course: training and equipping thousands of potential Al Qaeda recruits on the bloody battle field of an occupied Iraq..."

Foxes & Henhouses

Nice overview, with examples, of Fox operatives trying to sanitize entries for various Fox Faves. For students, this entry also helps explain why they aren't usually allowed to use Wikipedia as a source for research papers. Daily Kos: Fox News Scrubs Wikipedia: "...This is hardly all there is, but it’s certainly telling. Someone at Fox News is going online and scrubbing Wikipedia entries to make Fox look better and to attack their political enemies. Perhaps they would claim they’re simply trying to make things fair and balanced, but the rest of us see little more than revisionist history."

No Compassion From These Conservatives

Taylor Marsh: Fox Expects Edwards 'Sympathy Surge': "...You'd think on a day like today, when John and Elizabeth Edwards come out with such grace and courage, Fox 'News' could manage to be magnanimous. One day, that's all we're asking. But not even a life threatening disease can make Carl Cameron step away from his political pimping for the president and his party. What a tiny, little, itsy bitsy man Cameron is.

As managing editor of Fox 'News,' Brit Hume should haul Cameron into his office and demand him apologize to the Edwards. But we all know he won't. Now we know that Fox is not only a Republican tool, but also is an organization with people in charge who lack compassion, grace, humanity and every other word that connotes the lack of feelings for other human beings who are experiencing yet another crisis in their lives. Cameron is a disgrace. Hume took a moment during the discussion to acknowledge Elizabeth Edwards, but then presided over a 'sympathy surge' discussion, which was truly despicable. Fox 'News' has no shame or heart, but also lacks the humanity required of great news organizations."
