HuckAmendment

AMERICAblog: A great nation deserves the truth

"From TPM Election Central:
At a Michigan campaign event last night, Mike Huckabee gave an interesting reason for why he wants to amend the Constitution to ban both abortion and gay marriage: Otherwise, the Constitution would be in conflict with God.

Huckabee first observed that some of his opponents don't want to amend the Constitution on both of these topics. "But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God," Huckabee said. "And that's what we need to do, is to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards."
So, would that include adding anti-Catholic language to the Constitution? I mean, clearly Huckabee's version of Christianity includes none of the rest of us Christians, or anybody else, so what he really wants to do is amend the US Constitution to bring it more in line with Baptist theology. That should put a shudder into every non-Baptist in America."

THere are so many wrong things with this post it hard to know where to start.

First what makes you think this was a SOuthern Baptist Crowd he was talking too?

Second do you know the context of thhis remarks? It involved the human right amendment which is a part of the platform

Third, do you really think that Huckabee , who is a serious man , is plotting to get Baptist Theology into the US const which means he would have to have 2/3rds of the states to approve it.

FOurth, How can a man that is against prayer in public schools because he thinks the State should have no role be accused of being a theocrat?

Mike Huckabee was talking Evangelical talk to these people. Words they uinderstand. If he was in front of a Catholic Audience he would talk using words like "culture of Life" and Natural Law.

Finally. Does any of this rethoric against Huckabee remind people what we Catholics went through. THe whole Catholics want to take over American and be ruled by the Pope. As a Former Evangelical the stuff I am seeing on the web tonight as to this issue just saddens me that they thing a considerable amount of their fellow Countrymen are kooks

"Christ didn't tell us to go to the government and pass a bill to get some of these social problems dealt with. He told us to do it."

"The government has its role, but we need to keep firmly in mind the role of the government, and the role of us as individuals and as Christians on the other."
Fred Thompson

I believe that what Fred Thompson was trying to point out is something I personally believe that on many social issues we spend far to much time and resources fighting to get the government to fight what should be our Christian battles. You can not win hearts and minds by passing laws even laws against those things that we as Christians we are so against.

I find it odd that we think that our Christian message can only be fruitful if we can get the government to pass laws to help us, yet Christ was able to teach while under Roman Law and I don't ever remember reading about the Caesars or the Roman Senate passing even one law that promoted his teachings.

I would like to add that one's faith must be weak indeed if it takes government action or force to strengthen it.

As I recall God's word tells each of us what we need to do, not what we need to force others to do.

1) Note the quote marks.
2) What I think is irrelevant compared to what Huckabee said.
