The United States has more people in prison than any other country in the world; in spite of some who say it is cheaper to legally murder people via executions, studies seem to indicate the opposite, according to Petro in False Justice. In that book, Petro writes that “an Indiana gubernatorial commission’s research concluded in 2003 that it is about a third more expensive to pursue a capital case to its conclusion than to house a person sentenced to life without parole.” (p. 104)...
