In some people’s belief system, “Give people a little taste of equality and they will want even more” is just not a thing that can possibly be true; in fact, they consider “a taste of equality” to be in all cases a scam, a trick that The Man uses to lull people into thinking things will keep getting better. If I understand correctly, the next step is that The Man will put a stop to the getting-betterness, but no one will notice because… I’m not sure, I guess the idea is that once people have experienced a little happiness about one thing, they just stay happy and go back to playing Pokemon forever, and never pay any attention to their circumstances after that? So basically, incremental reform is the opiate of the masses, except it’s an opiate that somehow doesn’t cost the supplier anything to produce, and/or doesn’t even have to be provided to the masses after the first taste.
It all makes perfect sense if you assume that the point of political thought is not to achieve any goals or to form bonds of solidarity with any people, but just to not be a sucker.
