The Smirking Chimp: "The last few years my husband was in the Guard, he was gone so much that he ended up qualifying for an 'overseas short tour' ribbon. He hadn't been on a genuine short tour (traditionally, a twelve or eighteen month assignment); it's just that he had been on so many two and three month assignments that it added up to more than 18 months away from home.
This way of running things is so tough for servicemembers' families. A dear friend of mine got a divorce, not because she was mad at her husband over anything he did, but because she could no longer stand the stress of his military life. Generally, divorces are so common on military bases.
Yet Rumsfeld continues to swear that the military is NOT stretched too thin... "
Enlist! Help out! Our Army is in trouble. Recruits are needed. (Of course, you might also try get our soldiers brought home...)
