Rumsfeld's adherence to his plan despite perceived failures in Iraq has led a growing chorus of retired officers and military experts to conclude that his leadership at the Pentagon is dangerous to the future of the Iraq campaign and the overall U.S. fighting force.
'Boots on the ground and high-tech weapons are important, and one cannot come at the expense of the other,' retired Army Gen. John Batiste wrote in a recent essay. He is one of the Iraq veterans who rocked the Pentagon by calling for Rumsfeld to step down. . ."
