Democrats should not be afraid to use new power, control - The Smirking Chimp: "...Now that the Democrats have acquired majorities in Congress and in governors' mansions across America, it is time for the party to acquire a spine. The Democrats should mount an uncompromising push to stop the Iraq war abroad, to rein in the drug war at home, to cut the nation's bloated 'defense' budget, to fight corporate control of U.S. politics, and to cease America's uncritical support of Israel while playing footsie with authoritarian regimes from Saudi Arabia to China.
Now that the Democrats are in control of Congress again, it is time for them to take a cue from the words of a Republican stalwart, Barry Goldwater, who also had plenty of faults, but spoke the truth when he said, 'Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice, and moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.'"
