Ney Gets Time

Judge Sends Corrupt Congressman To Prison - Politics: "WASHINGTON -- Republican Bob Ney of Ohio was sentenced Friday to 30 months in prison.

The sentence came after he pleaded guilty to charges that he traded official favors for golf trips, tickets, meals and campaign donations from lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

He was the first congressman to be ensnared in the case.

A judge in Washington ordered Ney to serve the time at a federal prison in West Virginia.

When he's released, Ney will serve another two years on probation. He'll also pay a $6,000 fine.

The sentence is harsher than the one recommended by prosecutors. The judge said that's because Ney violated the trust placed in him as a public official."
