The shocking revelation behind the religiosity maps | TPMCafe: "So rather than sitting around wringing our hands over the 'Jesus freaks' overrunning the country (don't get me started on that odious 'Jesusland' map that appeared after the 2004 election), we should be actively working to help support progressive religious institutions across the country. I'm not saying send out UU and UCC missionaries, but helping to provide starter funds for churches and congregations in these areas is not only a politically savvy thing to do for progressives, but I believe is a good thing to do in general. Strong, progressive religious institutions help feed the poor, heal the sick, comfort the afflicted, and feed the hungry. That they act as a political counterbalance to religious conservatism is gravy on the chicken-fried steak."
