Comment Of The Day

Conservative Hypocrisy « The Confluence: "Peggy Sue, on February 17th, 2010 at 9:11 pm Said:

“Did you ever get the feeling you weren’t being told the complete truth?”

Hummm. Just about every minute of the day, particularly if I’m listening to or reading something from our brave media types.

Dakinikat, thank you for saying what needs to be said, again and again. The conservatives have no real solutions but they have plenty of buzzwords–liberty, free market, Founding Fathers, family, Rule of Law, which they use to confound and mesmerize people without defining how limited and narrow the scope actually is.

Though the Dems are in a self-inflicted tailspin right now, I’m getting sick of the revisionist history from the other side. You’d think this was brand new, something we’d never tried–a trickle-down economy, an ever-increasing military budget to keep out the boogie man, the Rule of Law that applies mostly to the wealthy and vested financial interests, the family that is defined by “their” dictionary and the need to put the government’s “nose between a woman’s legs” [love that whole section].

And the list goes on.

But wave the flag, bring up Mom and apple pie, and we’re all suppose to quiver and pull the lever with the big “R” on it.

What is this an attempt at mass hypnosis? Throw a little pixie dust around and maybe we’ll even forget the Bush years.

What worries me is people are desperate right now. The economy sucks despite all the happy talk. And desperate people do desperate things. Like fall for more hopey-changey nonsense. Which this Mt. Vernon Statement is, nothing more.
