"Remember back when we were going to reform health care?
A year ago, powerful special interests stood together and said they would share some pain for the good of the system and the country. Some congressional Republicans expressed interest in working with Democrats, who had the votes and popular support. All of which was good news for the growing number of Silicon Valley residents who were their own bosses and their own health-insurance providers.
But now? Now health care reform is a mess. Now it's clear that those who were willing to talk about pain were not actually willing to endure it. Now Republicans in Congress are intent on stopping an overhaul and Democrats are running scared, afraid that a vote to fix health care will mean a vote against them. Maybe a weak spine is a pre-existing condition for Congress..."
