Marsh On Edwards v. Rudy

Edwards v. Rudy
"...Edwards obviously knew he was picking a fight when he calculated that taking on the "global war on terror" would get him into a rhetorical brawl with the fearmongering GOP '08ers. I've wondered if this was a smart move in the middle of a campaign, not sure if Edwards could follow it all the way through to the inevitable street fight. That said, the courage it took to take on Bush's main talking point showed real steel from John Edwards, which impressed me greatly. If Edwards gets specific and takes the fight and turns it towards Rudy's implied "fascism," he just might make this into something that could lift the Edwards campaign up a notch or two. As it plays out it could also pay off..."

On a related note, This Week's Roundtable took a considerable amount of time and effort in bashing Edwards, which is now standard fare for George and George and the GOP talking head brigade, featuring Tori Clark in fine Bush enabling form. Unlike Fred Thompson, the actor, Claire Shipman, ABC "reporter," of Fred Thompson gravitas fame, didn't find that Edwards, the lawyer, had very much gravity. What is it about Edwards that terrorizes these GOPers more than any other Democratic candidate?
