Three-fifths of the population, right there..."
Sorry, but I don't see how $19,000 buys you a middle class lifestyle. The gulf between $20k and $80k is immense out here in the real world. In most areas, $60k will barely get you a house, car, medical insurance, and a college fund, and probably, one of those is going to go if you plan on eating out anywhere other than Taco Bell. For a good example see the lyrics of "We Can't Make It Here."
