ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- The State University of New York's high-profile expert in the science of nanotechnology has been given a raise that increases his annual SUNY salary to $666,995 or almost a half-million dollars a year more than Eliot Spitzer is paid as governor.
The almost $142,000-a-year raise for Alain Kaloyeros was first reported Monday by the New York Post. Even before the hefty hike, Kaloyeros was New York's highest paid state employee..."
At least the state's highest paid employee is not a football coach. Wonder what his teaching load is?

Kaloyeros's teaching load at the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering of the University at Albany - aka Albany Nanotech - is ZILCH. Yet he enjoys perks that NO ONE on a state government payroll should have at taxpayers' expense. Why didn't reporters and the public ask more questions about this preposterous raise when it happened? Consider: since then, two major figures in this decision have beat a hasty retreat: SUNY Chancellor John Ryan stepped down in May, and University at Albany Provost and Officer in Charge Susan Herbst will be gone by the end of October. Convenient, eh? If such good things are happening at this "nanocollege," why are its people... and UAlbany people... and SUNY people... leaving in droves? Why isn't the place producing significant research and ROI? Here's why: it's called smoke and mirrors, folks. There's a huge rotten underbelly to the whole place, starting at the top. Look into it and you'll see.
I believe you are exactly right. Something ugly is going on there; what does it take to get some reporting or political inquiry into this? It seems insane.
